Walking Festival

Leenane Development Association is pleased to announce that plans are in place for the first Leenane Walking Festival. Enjoy a unique combination of mountain and sea as Leenane is situated on the edge of Killary Harbour and surrounded by mountains in all directions.  We gratefully acknowledge the assistance in this project from the local landowners, without whom this would not be possible.

A festival with something for all levels of Walkers:

  • Guided walks up Mweelrea Mountain (the highest in Connacht!), Leenane Mountain, Devils Mother & Ben Gorm led by Michael Gibbons the well know archaeologist, Gerry Greensmyth and others, assisted by local Leenane villages with manys the stories to tell on life in Lennane!
  • Low Level guided walks along the Famine Tracks & the Western Way
  • Self guided short walks for the family
  • Talk by Michael Gibbons
  • Public insurance for all walkers
  • No problem on the guided walks with access

All guided walks will be led by qualified and experienced guides, aided by locals with vast knowledge and information on the area. Transport to and from starting and finishing points will be provided as will tea/coffee & scones at various local businesses at the end of each day.

Evening-times: Music and craic in Leenane village including Seannois dancing, Gala Buffet Dinner on Sunday night on the Connemara Lady Cruise! (Tickets on sale for €20 pp)
Family Programme: Families welcome as Delphi and Killary Adventure Centers will be running days of activities for children of 8 upwards.  Only children of 12 upwards can go on the mountain walks. 
Accommodation:  A range of options from Hotels/Country Houses to B&B's & Hostels.
