View the 2011 programme here to give you an idea of what we have on offer.

Enjoy a unique combination of mountain and sea as Leenane is situated on the edge of Killary Harbour and surrounded by mountains in all directions.

Check out images of the 2010 Festival here. We will be placing images from 2011 weekend up here soon.

The weekend sees walkers of all kinds taking on a variety of walks including, including Mweelrea, Benchoona and Maamtrasna. And our new additions to the 2011 programme were a great success and we hope to bring you the same again with some more new and exciting additions! Keep an eye here and on facebook as we will keep you updated!

Our new additions for 2011 were:

  • A guided Cycle around Salruck & Renvyle Peninsula.

  • A guided low level guided Herb & Nature walk along the Famine Trail

  • A simulated Helicopter Rescue from Leenane Hill by the Irish Coast Guard

  • Family walk on Leckavara Hill

  • Arts & Crafts Exhibition

  • Herbal Walk along the Famine Trail

  • BBQ & Hooli

  • Archaeology talk from Micheal Gibbons

We would like to thank all the landowners for giving us permission to use their land for the weekend. The festival is organised on a voluntary basis by locals from the community. Any surplus profits are recirculated back into the Leenane Development Association.

Check out a video of walkers on Mweelrea horseshoe here!

All guided walks are led by qualified and experienced guides, aided by locals with vast knowledge and information on the area. Transport to and from starting and finishing points will be provided as well as tea/coffee & scones at various local businesses at the end of each day. All walkers are covered by Public Liability Insurance.

If you would like to do a walk in the area at other times of the year you could try the Western Way with its new upgraded section. For full details click here.

Some Comments from previous Festival Walkers:

I attended the Leenane Walking Festival on Saturday and Sunday and I just wanted to say that we had a fantastic time.  It was well run and the walks were fantastic, the fact that the farmers allowed us over their land meant that we got to access the mountains from a different point to the one we would usually take.  The tea and scones afterwards were very welcome and the speedboat ride back to Killary was an experience I will never forget, what a novel way to end a hill walk!!  It was all a wonderful experience and we will definitely be back next year!

Just a quick note to say a big 'thank you' for a wonderful weekend of
walking. Very interesting to hear the various talks - Michael Gibbons and
the farmer near the Erriff river, in particular. Thanks also all who let
us walk on their land and to the providers of the tea and scones. A
really well-organised festival - congratulations to all!
